The E-620

The E-620 has a smaller grip than the E-520, But it packs a lot in such a small body

The Olympus E-620 is in my opinion the best consumer DSLR made to date. The 4/3 system has really grown over the last 6 years. At first it only had a few lenses to now nearly a complete system. A few specialty lenses are missing, but all in all for the vast majority the lens map is full, and really in my opinion it is a spectacular line up. Nearly all the lenses should be awarded the best in class, from the inexpensive consumer lenses to the top of the line optics.

The main problem in my opinion over the last few years have not been optics, but camera bodies, which are up to the same standards as the glass. Olympus at first had been swimming up stream, with complaints from many on line writers, who were so hoping for more. They would obviously overlook the advantages of the four thirds system, and even at times give free passes to inferior technology and optics. All in all the four thirds system has not been perfect, but it is really working to fix those leaks.

The Panasonic Sensor

When Panasonic entered into the 4/3 system a lot changed in my opinion. We now have a company which is committed as much as Olympus to the the system, and in my opinion producing much higher quality sensors than what we had before. At the same time, Olympus has forged ahead with new technologies - Originally we had SSWF - which is the only proven system to keep dust off the sensor. Now we have built-in Image stabilization, which was new to the four thirds system a couple years ago. As well as Auto gradation to help improve dynamic range of jpeg's, very accurate White balance sensor, and even the ability to shoot 100% live view. The E-620 is in my opinion the crowning achievement of the four thirds system to date, packaged in a consumer camera.
